“Whenever I have a question, I go to PAL. Knowing we have access to their support makes it so much easier to come to work everyday. I feel much more comfortable starting medications and managing patients while they’re waiting to see psychiatry.”

Your time spent consulting with PAL is reimbursable by Minnesota Health Care Plans and most commercial health plans. Eligible providers can use the consultation to help justify a higher time or complexity using E/M codes, or it can be billed by itself – usually by submitting CPT 99499 with modifiers. Please consult with your business office and contracts health plans for more details. Click here for the billing information on the Department of Human Services website.
No, you do not need patient authorization or consent to call PAL. Since no payment is collected for a PAL call, no financial consent is needed. In addition, provider-to-provider consultation is covered within the boundaries of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Families can call the PAL line for help with resources and referrals, but they cannot schedule a psychiatric consultation. PAL’s psychiatric consultation service is designed to support prescribing providers as they manage the care of their patients.
PAL will be closed on the following days:
**When a holiday falls on a Sunday, the holiday is observed on the following Monday. When November 11 falls upon a Saturday, the preceding Friday is observed.
PAL’s services are provided by PrairieCare Medical Group through grants from Minnesota Department of Human Services and Minnesota Department of Health.
